nice one guys.

we were all set for our first trip of the year but it didn't get above 7 degrees here in stoke and the cloud didn't break until around 3.00pm, by which time it was too late.

Saw 2 Zv today, a adult male and a u/s juvenile and managed to get a couple of nice pics.    Was expecting to see an Adder or two at the same site but despite the weather seeming perfect, none were seen.

Also saw my first Slowwie of the year yesterday in a compost bin - I don't recall seeing one in February before.

Sorry Will, perhaps I should have said we saw a grand total of one lizard today as well as the 24 adders!

Ah Mark you beat me to it with the first slowie! As it had been sunny for a few hours this morning here in East Devon I had a look in my compost bin. There was one very sluggish adult lying under the black plastic but no others. A surprise really as I never see them until March normally. About the first week in March usually.

After a dull start the sun finally came out here in E. Devon so after an hour I had a look for slowies in the compost heap. One large one whipped off pretty quickly but a last summer's young was a bit more sluggish. Seems like March is going to be the time for seeing them in double figures.

Quite a lot about today on the moors during our adder field trip. Up to now had only seen the odd one or at most two in a day but they were starting to appear in reasonable numbers in the sunshine - though still vastly outnumbered by the number of adders seen (42). Although some were very quick to disappear several stayed still enough for people to photograph.

hi

this lizard was an amazing green/turquoise colour when i first saw it. however, it must have been the light conditions or something because it looks brown in the pic. has anyone else ever had this? still a beautiful thing though...shame about the tail!

cheers
